Skin Care Tips for Reactive Red Skin

Skin Care Tips for Reactive Red Skin

Posted by Lisa, Aesthetics Manager on on Mar 17th 2023

Flushing and blushing aren't a problem...until they are for some people. When red, inflamed skin starts to become more pronounced and embarrassing, it is good to know what may or may not help. April is recognized as Rosacea Awareness Month, and although not all redness is rosacea, it seemed a fitting time to share the following tips on reducing redness.

If you suspect rosacea, it is always a good idea to seek a diagnosis and a treatment plan from a dermatology medical provider. With offices in Parker, Castle Rock, Colorado Springs, Woodland Park, and Pueblo our sister practice, Vanguard Skin Specialists, is a convenient option when seeking care for chronic redness. You can schedule an appointment by calling 719-355-1585.

Our Top Tips for Red Skin

  • Use mineral-only sunscreens. Your active ingredients should be listed as zinc, titanium dioxide, and iron oxides. EltaMD UV Physical SPF 41VanguardMD Pure-Tinted SPF 44, and clara Medical Skincare UV Luxe and UV Luxe+ SPF 40 are good options.
  • Identify and reduce triggers. Is it heat, UV, blue light, stress, alcohol, fragrance, and/or certain skincare products or ingredients that gets your redness going?
  • Consider IPL for reducing vascular redness. If you see tiny spider veins in area, you may be a good candidate for Intense Pulse Light therapy with our Limelight IPL treatment.
  • Just say no to fragrance, no to mineral oil, no to denatured alcohol in your products! Instead look for preservative-free products with anti-inflammatory ingredients such as bisabolol, allantoin, and Vitamin C. Some products designed to soothe and reduce redness are Daily CSoothe Redness Relief, and Gentle Foaming Cleanser.

We are here to help personalize a skin care plan for you through our free VISIA Skin Analysis. One feature this digital imaging system offers is a look at a redness comparison and the opportunity to capture baseline data to track improvement.
